The conference theme is: Rising Together: Building Collaborative Pathways in Music

The 2025 PMTA conference theme celebrates collaboration between teachers, students, performers, and the integration of technology, science, psychology and interdisciplinary ideas in the field of music.

Our conference guest recitalist and masterclass clinician is concert pianist Sean Chen, Steinway Artist and Jack Strandberg/Missouri Endowed Chair and Distinguished Visiting Professor in Piano at the University of Missouri- Kansas City. Learn more about Mr. Chen here.
The conference keynote speaker is Kevin Chance, MTNA President-elect and Associate Professor and coordinator of the Gloria Narramore Moody Piano Area at the University of Alabama. Learn more about Dr. Chance here.

Keyboard Fest

Keyboard Fest is a full-day festival geared towards K-12 piano students, their teachers and parents. Offering engaging master classes, workshops for all ages, and performances in our beautiful recital halls, this festival is a great way to kick off the school year. MTNA Competitions

Performance Competitions

The 2024 Pennsylvania state MTNA performance competitions will take place on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Lebanon Valley College.  Applications open in August for all categories and levels must be submitted online at the MTNA website prior to Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Chamber Music, Brass, and Voice applications open Nov. 1, 2024 and videos must be submitted no later than Wednesday, December 4, 2024, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  Please see the MTNA competitions website for more details.

Composition Competitions

Applications open in August 2024 for Composition and must be submitted online at the MTNA competition website prior to Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  There will be no exceptions.

Summer Piano Workshop

Open to high school students in grades 9 through 12, this Piano Workshop provides an exclusive opportunity for young artists to work with our distinguished piano faculty. The workshop offers a variety of expert instruction including 1-on-1 private piano lessons, peer observation in group class environment, sight-reading sessions, and masterclasses, as well as an opportunity to experience the art of collaborative piano. The week will conclude with a final recital featuring performances by all participants and celebrating their achievements.

Wells School of Music Keyboard Honors Recital

2024 West Chester University Pre-Collegiate Piano Competition

The West Chester University Annual Pre-Collegiate Piano Competition, now in its 34th year, strives to provide students ages 9-18 with performing opportunities and raise the standard of excellence of young pianists. This is a national competition with no geographic restrictions. There are three age groups with up to five cash prizes awarded in each group. Information regarding repertoire requirements, competition guidelines, awards, and how to apply is found below.

This year’s competition will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the Swope Music Building on our beautiful West Chester University Campus. The Wells School of Music is grateful for the support of Jacobs Music as they continue to co-sponsor this event in 2024.

A Recital & Awards Presentation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm in the Ware Family Recital Hall. The recital will include performances by the first, second, and third place winner in each group and must be attended by all Honorable Mention winners. Absences in either category will result in the cancellation of the award.

Preceding the Recital will be a Masterclass in Ware Family Recital Hall from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The Masterclass will be conducted by our esteemed Wells School of Music Associate Professor of Piano, Dr. Carl Cramner. To give students an opportunity to develop creativity, self-expression, and better musicianship through the art of composition. Entries due April 1, 2024
